July 25-31, 2016

A 5-foot-10, 190-pound outfielder and recent graduate of Madison High School, Harthun went 8-for-14 with double, triple, home run, five RBI and scored three runs in three games to help Vienna Post 180 to a fifth consecutive District 17 championship. A rising freshman at the College of William & Mary, he enters this week’s state tournament hitting .337 with a .456 on-base average, two homers, 16 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 21 games. Ryan Ertlschweiger, Reston-Herndon Little League

July 18-24, 2016

A rising seventh grader at Rachel Carson Middle School in Herndon, Ertlschweiger went 6-for-10 with three home runs and nine RBI in four District 4 Tournament games last week to help his All-Star team advance to the district final. A member of the Reston Warriors Red 12U travel team when not with his Little League team, he hit .563 during the district tournament and connected on a three-run, walkoff homer to beat Reston-Herndon American in the semifinals. The third baseman and right-handed pitcher also had 11 strikeouts in eight innings over two outings last week, including seven strikeouts over five innings in a 3-1 loss to Vienna American in the championship game. Chris Polymeropoulos, Hitmen Baseball 13U

July 11-17, 2016

A rising freshman at Madison High School, Polymeropoulos went 10-for-13 for the week, including 9-for-10 with six home runs, 12 RBI and 12 runs over the weekend to lead the Hitmen to the championship at the Cove Creek Tournament in Faber. A catcher and right-handed pitcher, he hit three home runs in the first game of the tournament against Virginia United, then pitched a complete-game in a victory over the Elkridge Canes. Luke Sullivan, Greater Manassas Baseball League

July 4-10, 2016

A rising fourth grader at Cedar Point Elementary in Bristow, Sullivan went 11-for-16 with five doubles and a triple, driving in 12 runs and scoring nine as his Greater Manassas Baseball League (GMBL) 9-year-old All-Star team won the Cal Ripken state championship. A first baseman and pitcher, Sullivan was also the winning pitcher in the opening round of the state tournament after not allowing an earned run in four innings of work in a  14-3 win over Summit Point on Thursday. Weston Rogers, Fort Hunt Little League

June 27-July 3, 2016

A rising freshman at Mount Vernon High School, Rogers went 7-for-10 with three home runs and eight RBI to help his Fort Hunt Little League Intermediate Division All-Star team advance to the championship game of the District 9 Tournament. The center fielder, who carried a 3.9 grade point average and was a member of the orchestra at Walt Whitman Middle School in Alexandria, hit .550 with 22 RBI in 11 games during the regular season. Toma Shigaki-Than, Stars Showcase Baseball 17U Red

June 20-26, 2016

A 5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed pitcher from Oakton High School, Shigaki-Than struck out 15 batters without walking a batter, did not allow a base runner past first base and surrendered just two hits in seven innings over two outings for the Stars at the Diamond Nation Super 17 Invitational in Flemington, N.J. The rising senior tossed three innings in a pool play game on Friday, then started and pitched four scoreless in a 5-0 win over Gallagher Team Mizuno (N.J.) in the quarterfinals on Sunday. Forrest Wagner, Chantilly High School

June 13-19, 2016

A 5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder, Wagner allowed two runs on three hits over 6.1 innings in Saturday’s 6A state championship game, which the Chargers won, 3-2, in walk-off fashion after scoring three seventh-inning runs. Wagner, who went 9-1 this season, earned a no-decision in the final, with reliever Jake Pasquale getting the final two outs to earn the win. Ryan Billy, C.D. Hylton High School

June 6-12, 2016

A 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed pitcher, Billy pitched a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and walked just one batter in the Bulldogs’ 1-0 win over Western Branch in the 6A South Region semifinals on Wednesday. It was Billy’s second shutout of the season, and the win clinched the program’s first state tournament berth since 2013. Jack DeGroat, Liberty University

May 30-June 5, 2016

A 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed pitcher from Loudoun Valley High School, DeGroat pitched seven one-hit shutout innings in a 6-1 win over High Point in the Flames’ Big South Conference Tournament opener on Tuesday, then came back and allowed just one run on three hits over eight innings on three days of rest in Liberty’s 1-0 loss to Coastal Carolina on Saturday. The freshman, who was named to the all-tournament team following his outings, finished with 15 strikeouts to five walks. An all-state pitcher during his senior prep season with the Vikings, he ended his rookie campaign 4-4 with a 4.02 ERA and had 65 strikeouts in 71.2 innings over 16 appearances, including 12 starts. Alex Smith, Mountain View High School

May 23-29, 2016

A 6-foot-1, 185-pound catcher, Smith had three hits and drove in the winning runs in both of the Wildcats’ 5A Conference 15 games in the 5A Conference 15 Tournament last week. The senior plated the game’s lone run in Thursday’s 1-0 semifinal win over Massaponax, then hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Potomac in the league’s championship game on Friday night. The Naval Academy commit also had a triple earlier in that game for the Wildcats, which play next in the North Region quarterfinals at home on Thursday against the winner of Stone Bridge and JEB Stuart. A 6-foot-5, 225-pound right-handed pitcher and first baseman, Tovsky pitched a complete-game four-hitter in an 8-2 win over South County in the 6A Conference 7 quarterfinals on Saturday. The senior, who will play at Elon University, also went 7-for-13 and scored four runs over three games last week, including two hits, two runs and an RBI in the quarterfinal win over the Stallions and two hits and two runs earlier in the week against Mount Vernon. Dan Powers, College of William & Mary

May 9-15, 2016

A 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed pitcher from Madison High School, Powers scattered five hits over eight innings, allowing one run in a 9-1 win over Towson on Sunday. The junior has gone at least six innings in each of his past seven starts, allowing more than three earned runs just once since over that span. Powers has limited teams to one run or less in five starts this spring, and he entered the week pacing the Tribe staff with seven wins and a 4.48 ERA in 70.1 innings. Will Schroeder, Loudoun County High School

May 2-8, 2016

A 6-foot-1, 160-pound shortstop and right-handed pitcher, Schroeder went 6-for-6 with over the Raiders’ two wins last week, including a 4-for-4 game in which he hit for the cycle, drove in four runs and pitched a complete game in a 12-2 win over John Champe on Tuesday. The sophomore also went 2-for-2 in Friday’s 10-0 win over Park View, and entered the week hitting .510 with a team-high 26 hits on the season for the Raiders, who are 7-8 overall entering their game on Tuesday against Rock Ridge. Jake Agnos, Battlefield High School

April 25-May 1, 2016

A 5-foot-10, 180-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder, Agnos struck out 17 batters while walking three in pitching a one-hitter in Thursday’s 6-1 win over Patriot. The senior also went 4-for-8 with a double and two RBI over the Bobcats’ two wins last week, as they also defeated Osbourn Park, 4-1, on Tuesday. The East Carolina University commit improved to 6-0 on the season with a 0.64 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 33 innings, and has thrown three complete-games and one no-hitter. His strikeout totals in his three complete games this spring are 17, 16 and 17. Nick Feight, University of North Carolina-Wilmington

April 18-24, 2016

A 5-foot-11, 200-pound catcher from Battlefield High School, Feight went 9-for-17 with three doubles, a home run, scored seven runs and had 13 RBI as the Seahawks won all four of their games last week. The sophomore, who was also named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Player of the Week for the second time this season, went 4-for-5 with five RBI in Friday’s 15-5 win over East Tennessee State, then went 3-for-4 with six RBI in a 17-7 win over ETSU on Saturday. Feight enters the week second on the team and fourth in the CAA with a .382 average. Matt Malacane, Seton Hill University

April 11-17, 2016

A 6-foot-1, 195-pound outfielder and first baseman from Freedom-South Riding High School, Malacane went 12-for-20 with five home runs, 15 RBI seven runs and five stolen bases as the Griffins won four of their five games last week. The senior was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s West Player of the Week, and enters this week hitting .417 with 11 doubles, 12 homers and 51 RBI and has stolen 14 bases in 36 games. A two-time Double A Region II selection at Freedom, Malacane has 19 multi-hit games this season, and had two 4-hit games last week. Seton Hill is currently ranked No. 19 in the Division II Collegiate Baseball poll, and No. 23 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll. Jon Clines, McLean High School

April 4-10, 2016

A 6-foot-3, 200-pound left-handed pitcher and first baseman, Clines pitched a complete-game two-hitter and had 10 strikeouts to just two walks in a 2-1 win over rival Langley on Friday. The senior, who has committed to play at the Virginia Military Institute, drove in the Highlanders’ first run against the Saxons, and finished the week 4-for-8 with two doubles, four RBI, four runs and a stolen base. He also struck out three in an inning of relief in Tuesday’s 6-2 win over South Lakes. Clines was a first-team 6A Conference 6 selection as a junior last spring. McLean entered the week on a three-game winning streak and is 6-3 overall entering its game at Yorktown on Tuesday. Andrew Webb, Forest Park High School

A 6-foot-3, 215-pound catcher, Webb went 9-for-16 with four doubles, six RBI and three walks as the Bruins advanced to the championship game of the Division I bracket at the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The senior had two hits in four of Forest Park’s five games, driving in a run in a 7-3 win over South County and driving in two in a 4-0 win over Davy Crockett (TN) and in a 9-4 loss to West Springfield in the championship game. He threw out two base runners in a 5-4 win over Key West (FL), and pitched two innings to earn the save in a 3-2 win over Northside Christian (FL). The 5-foot-10, 175-pound junior catcher had a big first week after replacing two-time 5A state Player of the Year Mitch Blackstone, going 5-for-9 with a double, triple and nine RBI to lead the Statesmen to wins over Wakefield, Manassas Park and Centreville last week. Had two hits and drove in four runs in a 13-3 win over Manassas Park in the Eddie Hope “Let’s Play Two” Tournament at C.D. Hylton on Saturday, and drove in two runs in the wins over Wakefield and Centreville. Jones hit .286 as a sophomore last spring, when Marshall won the 5A Conference 13 championship and advanced to both the North Region and state championship games before falling to Stone Bridge in both games. Chad Carroll, James Madison University

March 14-20, 2016

A 5-foot-10, 180-pound shortstop from Oakton High School, Carroll is our Player of the Week for the week of March 14-20. The fifth-year player went 10-for-22, scoring five runs and stealing five bases as the Dukes won two of their five games last week. He enters Tuesday’s game against Monmouth carrying a 12-game hitting streak, has 12 multi-hit games this season, and is pacing the team in batting average (.435), on-base average (.473) and stolen bases (10). He is second in the Colonial Athletic Association in batting average and steals. Mitch Aker, Herndon Braves

July 20-26, 2015

A 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed pitcher from the College of William & Mary and a graduate of Paul VI Catholic High School, Aker is our Player of the Week for the week of July 20-26. He earned the save in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League’s All-Star Game on Wednesday, and also earned a win and a save for the Braves. Struck out two and did not allow a hit in a scoreless inning as the South defeated the North, 2-1, at the league’s showcase game at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, MD, and also earned the save in a 2-1 win over the Bethesda Big Train on Monday and a win in relief when he struck out five over three scoreless innings in Friday’s 2-1 win over the Alexandria Aces. Kevin Lachance, Vienna River Dogs

July 13-19, 2015

A 6-foot-3, 180-pound shortstop from the University of Maryland at Baltimore County (UMBC) and a graduate of Centreville High School, Lachance is our Player of the Week for the week of July 13-19. Lachance returned from an injury last week to go 12-for-31 as the River Dogs won six of their nine games in Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League play. He had two doubles, five RBI, six stolen bases and scored 10 runs after returning to his leadoff spot in the Vienna lineup, returning for Monday's game after missing the previous three weeks with an injury. A member of the South Division team at the league's All-Star Game next week, Lachance enters the week hitting .359 with 16 runs, 8 RBI and 11 steals in 17 games this summer. James Triantos, Richmond Braves 12U North

June 29-July 5, 2015

The shortstop and right-handed pitcher, a rising seventh grader at St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., is our Player of the Week for the week of June 29-July 5. Triantos hit .677 with nine home runs, 21 RBI and 20 runs over 11 games - 10 of them wins - to help the Braves advance to the championship game at the Cooperstown Dreams Travel Baseball Tournament in New York. The Ashburn resident was also the winning pitcher in three games throughout the week at the event, which featured 104 teams from across the country. The Braves were the first team from Northern Virginia to advance to the championship game at the event, and they finished their season 41-6 overall.

Josh Sborz, University of Virginia

June 22-28, 2015

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound junior from McLean High School served as a thorn in the side of Florida at the College World Series in Omaha en route to being named our Player of the Week for the week of June 22-28. Sborz pitched two perfect innings to earn his 15th save of the season in a 1-0 win over the Gators on Monday, then threw four scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out two and walking one, to earn the win in a 5-4 win over Florida on Saturday to clinch a second consecutive trip to the CWS finals. The second round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers has allowed one unearned run in 15 innings in the NCAA Tournament and has a 1.70 ERA in 69 innings this season. Pete Nielsen, Madison High School

June 15-21, 2015

Nielsen, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound switch-hitting junior shortstop and right-handed pitcher, has been named our Player of the Week for the week of June 15-21. Nielsen had the game-tying base hit and earned the win after allowing just one hit over 3.2 scoreless innings of relief in the Warhawks’ 6-5 win over Chantilly in the 6A state championship game on Saturday. Also had two hits and two RBI in a 7-2 win over First Colonial in the semifinals on Friday. Earlier in the postseason, had a walk off double in the North Region semifinals against Battlefield, which clinched Madison a berth in the region final and state playoffs. Hunter Gore, Loudoun Valley High School

June 8-14, 2015

Gore, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound junior catcher, drove in the winning runs in both of Loudoun Valley’s victories to earn our Player of the Week for the week of June 8-14. Gore plated the winning runs in the 3A East Region Tournament last week, a 2-0 win over Culpeper in the quarterfinals on Wednesday and a 7-4 win over Colonial Heights in the semifinals on Friday. Broke a scoreless tie with a two-out RBI single in the fifth inning against Culpeper, and then hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to provide the winning margin against previously undefeated Colonial Heights. Jake Agnos, Battlefield High School

June 1-7, 2015

Agnos, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior left-hander earned his second Player of the Week honor of the season for the week of June 1-7. Agnos struck out 13 and allowing just one run on two hits over six innings in the Bobcats’ 8-1 win at Oakton in the first round of the 6A North Region Tournament on Friday. The East Carolina University commit also collected two hits and three RBI as Battlefield advanced to face South Lakes in Monday’s quarterfinals. Agnos is 7-0 with a 0.74 ERA and has 116 strikeouts in 56.1 innings this season. He also had a 19-strikeout outing during a regular season win over Stonewall Jackson. Colin Shue, Fielder's Choice 10U

May 25-31, 2015

Shue, a fourth grader at Cool Spring Elementary School in Leesburg, has been named our Player of the Week for the week of May 25-31. Shue went 10-for-13 over six games during the Kyle's Kamp Memorial Day Weekend Tournament. The versatile player - he pitches, catches and has played in the outfield - was 3-for-3 with four RBI to lead his team to a 10-0 quarterfinal win over the Virginia Cannons Blue, and he played a key role as his team raised over $6,000 for pediatric cancer research and care, for which the tournament serves as a fundraiser. Favero, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound junior left-hander, is our Player of the Week for the week of May 18-24. Favero struck out nine while pitching six innings of a combined no-hitter for the Warhawks in an 8-0 win over Langley on Tuesday, then hit a two-run home run in Madison’s 21-2 win over Hayfield in the 6A Conference 6 quarterfinals on Friday. The younger brother of former Warhawk standout Nate Favero and cousin of alum Mike Nielsen and junior shortstop Pete Nielsen, Favero went 8-0 with a 0.16 ERA and had 66 strikeouts in 39 innings of work during the regular season as No. 4 Madison went 15-5 and claimed the No. 2 seed in the conference Tournament. Liam Gannon, Virginia Stars 12U

May 11-17, 2015

Gannon, a sixth grader at All Saints Catholic School in Manassas, is our Player of the Week for the week of May 11-17. Gannon went 6-for-9 with four home runs and seven RBI while scoring six runs in helping the Virginia Stars 12U to the championship game of the Best In Class/Diamond Elite 12U Regional Qualifier in Ruther Glen this past weekend. He hit two home runs and drove in three runs in the Stars’ 8-3 loss to the Granville (N.C.) Storm to open the tournament, and homered and drove in another three runs in a 15-10 win over the Richmond Braves Majors in the semifinals. Tim Johnson, Annandale High School

Johnson, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound junior outfielder and right-handed pitcher, is our Player of the Week for the week of May 4-10. Johnson went 6-for-9 with two home runs and drove in nine runs as the Atoms defeated West Potomac, Episcopal and W.T. Woodson last week. He also picked up the win after allowing no earned runs over 5.1 innings of work in Wednesday’s 14-4 win over Episcopal. A standout wide receiver for the Atoms' football team in the fall, Johnson is hitting .343 with four home runs and 24 RBI and is 8-for-8 in steal attempts for Annandale, which enters the week 11-6 and will host T.C. Teddy Herbert, Washington-Lee High School

Herbert, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound junior right-hander and first baseman, is our Player of the Week for the week of April 27-May 3. Herbert pitched a complete-game two-hitter with five strikeouts and added a two-run home run in an 8-2 win over South Lakes on Saturday. He went 5-for-9 with two homers, eight RBI and three runs over the week for the Generals, who entered the week 8-5 with games scheduled at Wakefield on Monday, McLean on Tuesday and at home against Langley on Friday. Agnos, a 6-foot, 175-pound left-hander, is our Player of the Week for the week of April 20-26. Agnos struck out 19 during a complete-game 1-hitter in a 4-0 win over Stonewall Jackson High School last Friday. Agnos' effort was one short of Matt Crouse's school-record of 20, set in May 2007, also against Stonewall Jackson. The state-record for strikeouts is 21 in a 7-inning game, done twice in the early 1980s. Agnos was also 2-for-3 at the plate in the game. Selby, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound sophomore outfielder from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, is our Player of the Week for the week of April 13-19. Selby hit .368 as George Washington University won four of five games last week, including a 12-1 win at No. 16 Maryland and a sweep of Atlantic 10 Conference rival Dayton. Selby went 7-of-19 with three doubles, three RBI, three runs scored and one walk as the Colonials improved to 21-10 overall and 9-2 in the A-10. Nick Atkinson, Osbourn Park High School

April 6-12, 2015

Atkinson, a 6-foot, 175-pound outfielder at Osbourn Park High School in Manassas, is our Player of the Week for the week of April 6-12. Atkinson went 6-for-7 with four stolen bases in two games last week. A Virginia Commonwealth University signee, the senior had a 4-for-4 game in a 13-8 loss to Brooke Point, legging out three triples and a double. One of the top defensive outfielders and base runners in the area, he was a second-team All-6A North Region choice last spring, and also a All-Conference 8 wide receiver last fall for the Yellow Jackets' football team. Will Kirwan, Freedom High School-South Riding

March 29-April 5, 2015

Kirwan, a 6-foot-5 senior at Freedom-South Riding, is our Player of the Week for the week of March 29-April 5. Kirwan went 8-for-11 over three games at the plate and pitched five innings in a win over Westfield High School last week. Kirwan, who had 4 hits in the win over Westfield, was a key contributor to the Eagles' run to the state tournament last spring, and entered the week with 11 hits in 5 games. He has struck out 14 batters to just 2 walks in 12 innings of work. Freedom is next in action on Tuesday against St. Mary's (MD) and will travel to play Lake Braddock next Monday. Jacob Roop, Annandale High School

March 22-28, 2015

Roop, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound outfielder and right-handed pitcher, is our Player of the Week for the week of April 22-28. Roop went a combined 6-for-7 with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored and eight RBI in the Atoms' wins over Thomas Jefferson and Falls Church last week. The junior, who was an all-6A Conference 7 selection last spring, also started on the mound and threw three scoreless innings in Tuesday's 12-1 win over the Colonials. Joe Vanderplas, University of Maryland-Baltimore County

Vanderplas, a redshirt junior pitcher at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County by way of Fairfax High School, is our Player of the Week for the week of March 15-21. Vanderplas was named the America East Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete-game and allowing just five hits in a 6-1 win over Hartford on Friday. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound left-hander enters the week carrying a 4.33 ERA with 13 strikeouts to just three walks in 19.1 innings over three starts this season. Luke Willis, George Mason University

March 8-14, 2015

Willis, a senior outfielder from Oakton High School, is our Player of the Week for the week of March 8-14. Willis went 8-for-14 and reached base in 11 of 17 plate appearances in the Patriots' three-game series with Marshall over the weekend. The leadoff man scored three runs, drove in two runs and stole two bases in the series, and enters the week hitting .380 with a .456 on-base average in 11 games. Ky Parrot, James Madison University

March 1-7, 2015

Parrott, a sophomore from Herndon High School, is our Player of the Week for the week of March 1-7. Parrott went 5-for-10 and drew five walks over the Dukes’ five games last week. The 5’9”, 185-pound outfielder, who was drafted in the 26th round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft out of high school in 2013, drove in four runs and finished the week by going 2-for-2 with 3 walks, 2 RBI, 2 runs and his first career home run in a 9-6 win over Quinnipiac on Sunday. Josh Sborz, University of Virginia

February 23-March 1, 2015

Sborz, a junior pitcher from McLean High School, is our Player of the Week for the week of February 23-March 1. Sborz went five scoreless innings and had six strikeouts in a 5-4, 18-inning win over Marist on Sunday. The 6'3", 225-pound right-hander has a 0.00 ERA with two saves in 7.2 innings since taking over as the Cavaliers' closer this season. Sborz's older brother, Jay, pitched in the Detroit Tigers organization, reaching the Major Leagues in 2010. Virginia improved to 7-0 win Sunday's win.
